As my career grew in cyber security, I went on to take other certifications within EC-Council. CEH wasn’t easy either, but because I already took the CND, which transitions into CEH it wasn’t as bad as CND was. It wasn’t easy, and after that certification, I went on to take the CEH course. I took that course and found it very challenging. The entry-level course was CND (Certified Network Defense). I wanted to get into cyber security, and a good friend of mine recommended EC-Council as a great certification body. Then I started doing my research on skills that a cyber security professional needed to protect networks. How do they penetrate this network, and how can I stop their unauthorized access. I sat down and asked myself, what do the attackers know that I don’t. I started seeing several Denial-of-service attacks which made me wonder how does all this happen. This is how my interest in cyber security sparked because I started seeing several unauthorized access on the network. Then I got a job as a network engineer where I configured switches, routers, and some wide-area technologies like MPL and PLS networks. I was passionate about networks, wanted to understand them better and how they worked. When I got into CISCO, my focus was not on security. I started from the associate level, and I went all the way up to a CCIE level. My first step into information technology was in networking, so I started with a networking certification body called CISCO. Over time, I moved into information technology.

Then I transitioned into ICS SCADA, where I managed the SCADA network, wrote some scripts for Modbus protocols, and this is how the initial five years of my career went. The first job that I landed was as a plc network engineer where I designed plc networks, managed, upgraded, and maintained them. It’s more operational technology than information technology. I know people think that has to do with it, but I don’t see it more as I.T. I did Computer Systems Engineering, where I majored in both software and hardware engineering. From an educational perspective, I started as an engineer.
